The Differences Between UPVC and Composite Doors
Composite doors are seriously threatening the reign of UPVC doors as king of the family home door. For years, UPVC doors were the preferred choice of most families because they are affordable, easy to clean and they look attractive when you first buy one. However, UPVC door owners have found that numerous flaws are apparent in their purchase and now, it seems as if composite doors are about the become the next big thing. Here is a comparison between UPVC and composite doors to see who comes out on top.
It is widely assumed that UPVC doors are the most durable on the market. This is not the case at all. While they may be durable in comparison to wood, they lag far behind the life span of composite doors. Although UPVC doors are easy to clean and maintain, you can lose up to five years off the life of one of these doors if you fail to keep up this minimal maintenance. Many UPVC doors last 20-25 years but it is cut to 15-20 when not cleaned. A composite door on the other hand can last for up to 35 years. If you don’t maintain it, it will probably last 33 years.
Again, this is absolutely no contest. Composite doors are twice as thick as UPVC doors and have a polyurethane core which becomes rock hard. In comparison, UPVC doors often have a Styrofoam core which is relatively flimsy. If a thief knew you were away, they may try and quickly break down your UPVC door. Unlikely perhaps, but possible. There is absolutely no chance of them trying to take on a composite door because all but the most mentally challenged thief know that it is a battle they cannot win. It should also be noted that bad weather weakens the frames of UPVC doors, making them easier to get past. Both sets of doors rank highly when it comes to the choice of locks available.
Secured By Design
Rockdoor is manufactured in accordance with Secured by Design, an accreditation fully backed by the police. All Secured by Design products are tested in accordance with strict guidelines to reduce crime. To ensure your door meets these requirements, simply specify your Rockdoor to be Secured by Design.
UPVC doors generally all look the same. Very little in the way of style or personality can be found. They begin by looking white but tend to fade over time and start to look a rather unattractive shade of yellow after a few years. Composite doors are available in an extraordinary array of colours and designs. Indeed, there is a company online that claims to have more than 100 billion combinations of composite door available. Even if this rather lofty claim proves to be untrue, there are more choices available than you could ever possibly need.
Value For Money
Although UPVC doors are cheaper overall, composite doors give you more bang for your buck. Also, they are more energy efficient which means they may well be less expensive than UPVC doors over their 35 year life span. You are also more likely to replace a UPVC door than a composite one.
Doors are prone to high levels of heat absorption which can often cause problems. Rockdoor however has the solution called Heat Shield technology which is standard on all woodgrain & coloured Rockdoors. Heat Shield reflects all of the NIR rays of the sun helping to keep the door surfaces cool
As you can see, UPVC doors may be a reasonable option but they cannot compare to Rockdoor composite doors which sweep the board in all categories and look set to dominate the market for years to come.
